Jeff often uses calls when he hunts. Calls simulate animal sounds and serve various functions. They can disguise the hunter and encourage animal behaviors. For example, the sound of a doe during the mating season might interest a buck. Or, the rattling of antlers may trick a buck into thinking there is a fight on his territory. The use of calls is exemplary of sound’s importance in hunting. Being silent isn’t everything. Sound not only exists passively for hunters to perceive but is a medium through which they can make their presence known or obscured.
